We have two Cello teachers:
Mrs Joanne Johnston BMus (Hons)
Joanne is a fully registered school teacher with a BMus (Hons), ABRSM Performance Certificate and an IRMT diploma. Her teaching experience ranges from classroom, to small group and orchestral directing as well as individual cello lessons – teaching at six Auckland schools and privately in her studio. Her students consistently achieve success in the Royal Schools Exams at all levels.
Dr. Lisa Chung
Dr. Lisa Chung holds the Doctor of Musical Arts in cello performance from the University of Auckland. In the past, she studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow for an intensive performance programme. Lisa won a number of competitions and scholarships in NZ and overseas including a full scholarship to study and perform at the prestigious Aspen Music festival in Colorado, U.S. Her students have been successful nationally and internationally; one of them was invited to compete at the Tchaikovsky International Competition for Young Musicians in 2017. Some have also participated in the Young Artist Summer Program at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and Summer Music Festival with Juilliard. Her students were recently accepted to Juilliard pre-college, New England Conservatory pre-college, and Colburn School.
