The Duchesne Orchestra is for players from Years 7 to 10. The group performs at school events - award assemblies and end-of-year prizegivings, sometimes joining other school groups for festivals or playing in the community where the girls’ efforts are always appreciated.
For those girls who play a string, woodwind, brass or percussion instrument, joining Duchesne Orchestra is a great motivator – they will improve skills such as sight-reading and playing in tune more quickly and it is fun to play in a large group. It’s also a training group for the Senior Orchestra and other groups. As such the players will cover performance technique, ensemble playing, following a conductor, playing harmonies rather than just the tune, building a repertoire of pieces both for enjoyment as well as performance.
