Mrs Penny Christiansen

Penny Christiansen is an Auckland-based professional pianist and accompanist. She completed her undergraduate studies with Tamas Vesmas at Auckland University, graduating with a BMus. A further four years of postgraduate study in Utrecht, Netherlands, under the tutelage of renowned accompanist Thom Bollen, resulted in a Cert. Post Graduate studies in chamber music performance.

Penny worked as a chamber musician and repetiteur in the US before returning to New Zealand. In addition to freelance work, particularly with young musicians, she has been working at Diocesan School for Girls since 2013, where she accompanies the Junior Choirs, plays for Chapel and teaches piano. She has been the pianist for choirs at Auckland Grammar School and St Peter’s College and is currently playing for choirs at Baradene and One Tree Hill College. She regularly accompanies for instrumental grade and diploma exams, as well as NCEA performances. 

Penny is also a violinist and regular player with the St Matthew's Chamber Orchestra, she enjoys singing in choirs and is the Auckland Chairperson for the NZ Choral Federation.
