On 8th November, it was wonderful to welcome back to Baradene two alumnae from the White Fern’s successful 2024 T20 World Cup Cricket Team – Molly Penfold and Fran Jonas.
Our students welcomed them with the school haka and this was followed by a very interesting question-and-answer session and photos.
It was very inspiring for our students to hear from sports women competing on the world stage.
Molly was class of 2019 and Fran class of 2021 and they were both involved fully with school life, and in particular the sports side.
Molly (pace bowler) - was Sports Leader at Baradene in 2019, her elder sister Josie was also Sports Leader and her younger sister, Lola, is in Y11 this year. In her time at Baradene Molly played in our 1st XI Cricket team, was in our Premier Netball team, Premier Touch team and Senior A Volleyball team, she was also great at athletics and competed at Auckland Champs in a number of years.
Fran (spin bowler) - was selected into the White Ferns when she was in Year 13, she won the College Sport Auckland Young Sportsperson of the Year award in 2021, she played football and was in our Y7/8A, Junior A and 2nd XI teams, and also played futsal and netball in her early years at Baradene, and obviously played in our 1st XI cricket team.
