NISS Orienteering
Recently the Orienteering team finally had a competition to test our development this year. We were very appreciative of the Counties Manukau club continually postponing the North Island Secondary School Champs so that we could have an event. This is usually held in April – this year it is the highlight of our season and we certainly made the most of the it!
We had 26 girls entered for the competition which consisted of 2 races over Saturday and Sunday. Orienteering caters for all levels of experience with events for both experienced (championship) and new to the sport athletes (standard). It was fantastic to see our training put into action with many of our girls placing in the top 10 in their category and some personal bests. For some of our girls, it was also their first orienteering competition and they all performed admirably, doing their best and learning from the experience. In addition to a number of outstanding individual performances, we won both the Top School and Premier School Girls awards which are a team effort across all age grades. My sincere thanks to all of the girls who participated over the weekend. This result would not be possible without all of your participation and support for your team. We have had a number of training events throughout the year in preparation for competition, our thanks to coaches Llewellyn and Anthony McGivern for all of their hard work this year. And an extra big thank you to Mrs Buyck for all she has done for Orienteering this year!
